I want to quit social networking. But Tumblr doesn’t count, right?
This evening my world literature classmates discussed how each of us would write a novel about his/her life story, how we would start it. We somehow came across the topic of postpartum depression. Then a lady mentioned that each year, ever since her son was born, she wrote a letter to him every holiday, including Christmas. A full page, handwritten letter. She told us that after rereading the very first letter in December after his birth in August, she could remember writing the letter, and how she felt while writing the letter. She wanted to write some of the negativity she felt, but she remembered keeping that to herself because she didn’t want her newborn son to know her depression.
Then another lady chimed in and stressed the importance of writing letters. “Can you imagine what past generations would think of us now? If they saw all of the crap we wrote on Facebook? They would probably think we’re stupid.”
Seriously.
‘Update’ less. Write more.
